My Life and How This Came to Be

I believe you all deserve an explanation on how this came to be. I am currently a college student planning on majoring in Social Work. To fulfill some of my generals credits, I had decided to take a Women’s Studies course. This course was amazing and inspired me to do a topic for this final project on gender stratification. I had learned about this problem in some of my Sociology classes, but my Women’s Studies course helped me to go even further into this topic. I believe not everyone has access to this information as I do and I wanted to do this, my webpage, as my final project to raise awareness on gender stratification. I currently work on a farm, which may be considered a gender stratified job. I know there are a lot of instances in and outside of work where gender stratification may occur. It doesn't have to be just a male dominated job or female dominated job. Like I had stated on my home page, gender stratification encompasses any unequal distributions in life between men and women. This can include housework, child care, pay, and treatment. Gender stratification is a huge problem and still needs to be dealt with. You may find if you look further into the center of this problem, that there is more going on than you first expected. This site and project is to help raise awareness in this aspect. Hopefully you will learn more about the matter like I had.
Now a little more about myself. Like I had mentioned earlier, I am a sophomore in college. I hold a job on a farm part time and like to pursue my hobbies, such as my horse and reading, on my sometimes far from reach free time. I'm sure some of you have experienced this. Free time is hard to come by, but for women it is sometimes even harder to come by when we face gender stratification. Till I took this course in Women’s Studies, I had not realized how oppressed I was in society. There are many aspects in which people are treated unfairly in society. Gender stratification is just one of the many topics we had learned about. We learned how gender is established and how it may affect you in later aspects in life. I decided to discuss the broader topics of gender stratification in which I feel most of you can relate to. I hope you enjoy the site and learn as much as I do!
